Mother Mary is both virgin and mother. Isn’t that amazing? She became a mother in the fullest sense, and a virgin in the fullest sense. Nothing was lacking in her. Some girls want to bear spiritual children as nuns, other girls the joy of raising a family. But they can’t have both. Yet Mary had both to the greatest extent imaginable. Insofar as we are one-Christ by divine adoption, we are also her children!
She’s beautiful, and she’s our mother.
Even Martin Luther was compelled to write of her: “No image of woman gives a man such pure thoughts as this virgin does.”
