“And thank the Lord
For the temporal sword
And howling heretics too.
And all good things
Our Christendom brings
But especially barley brew!
With my row-ti-tow
Ti-oodly-ow
Especially barley brew!”
—Hilaire Belloc, The Pelagian Drinking Song

“If Christ is the sacrament of God, the Church is for us the sacrament of Christ” —Henri De Lubac, S.J

Faith effects unity.

Our relationship with the Lord is coextensive with our fellowship as members of His Body, the Church. “Not only is she gathered around him; she is united in Him, in his body…the unity of all her members with each other as a result of their union with Christ” (CCC 789).  God’s revelation in Christ, Christ’s very life, is continued in this world because the Church really makes Him present: “She (the Church) not only carries on his work, but she is his very continuation, in a sense far more real than that in which it can be said that any human institution is its founder’s continuation” (De Lubac, Catholicism, 76).  Although we are loved individually and personally, we are never loved apart from each other.

“You have to learn from the Heart of Jesus. That is why Jesus said ‘learn of me’–not from books.” —Mother Teresa

“Some people, in order to discover God, read books. But there is a great book: the very appearance of created things. Look above you! Look below you! Read it. God, whom you want to discover, never wrote that book with ink. Instead, He set before your eyes the things that He had made. Can you ask for a louder voice than that?” —― Augustine of Hippo     (via:anchoredinChrist4ever)

“The coming peril is the intellectual, educational, psychological and artistic overproduction, which, equally with economic overproduction, threatens the wellbeing of contemporary civilisation. People are inundated, blinded, deafened, and mentally paralysed by a flood of vulgar and tasteless externals, leaving them no time for leisure, thought, or creation from within themselves.” —G.K. Chesterton in a speech in Toronto, Canada circa 1930. Citation. (via makahanaloa)
